This book is amazing! It really helped prepare my two year old for his first visit to the dentist. The pictures are spot on for everything your child will experience. Very, very pleased.
A great book for teaching children about the dentist. A little over my 3 year old's head still but a good addition to our library for later.
I am a pediatric dentist, and I purchased this book to keep in my waiting room. It is a nice book, except for the letter Q! Q is for questions, and has a picture of a girl crying on it. The questions are "Will it hurt?" and the answer given is something like, "well, if it would hurt, we will inject you so it doesn't." and the other question is "Will there be blood?" and the answer is "Yes, but it won't be enough to hurt you." Now, these answers a factual and rational, but many of my nervous pediatric patients would just see the crying girl, the words inject and blood, and it would be enough to make them more nervous about a dental appointment. (or at least the picky parents may complain about it)
But it has cool art!
Dentists can be very scary people. Not many people like to have someone looking into their mouths to check out their teeth. Probably the only time teeth are fun is when one falls out and the tooth fairy comes to leave some money! There are all kinds of things to learn about healthy teeth from A to Z.
Q is for Questions
Patient "Will it hurt?"
Dentist "It doesn't have to hurt. If what I'm going to do might hurt, I will inject some medicine so you won't feel it."
This was a surprisingly well done book with a considerable amount of information that a child can easily understand and absorb with additional information that will interest the parent, caretaker or teacher. In this A to Z book about healthy teeth there are simple explanations about everything from the use of floss to what plaque and saliva are. One of the more interesting is an illustration detailing the number and names of all the teeth. The text was reviewed by a DDS for accuracy. This would be a good introduction to acquaint the young child with dentists and prevent not only cavities, but fear of dentistry itself.
